Reimagining North East events to reach far and wide

By Michelle Manning

Our Area Network in the North East joined forces with a leading people event in the region to shine a light on employee engagement.

The collaboration between the North East Area Network ‘EngageNE’ and the ‘People Power 2020’ conference featured EFS co-founders Nita Clarke and David MacLeod as keynote speakers at separate online events.

Before 2020, the annual People Power conference welcomed over 300 senior business leaders and HR professionals from across the North East. During the pandemic, with Engage For Success’s contribution, they reimagined their event series’ format as webcasts in June and September.

At June’s free online event, expert speakers offered advice and ideas to help workforces and businesses to survive and thrive. In her provocatively-titled session ‘Lessons from the pandemic – it’s the people, stupid!’, Nita Clarke looked at how the four enablers are essential to organisational success.

In an interactive virtual conference in September, David MacLeod explained ‘Why employee engagement is more important than ever’. He outlined the context for and the growing importance of realising the full capabilities and potential of all employees.

One of the upsides of going virtual for the two events was to expand the reach beyond the North East, with over 250 delegates from across the UK and Europe attending.

Area Network Ambassadors Trevor Norman and Michelle Manning, with support from local business woman Maggie Pavlou, are raising the profile of employee engagement and its impact on productivity in the North East.

Building relationships and collaborations with other bodies in the area, such as the Local Enterprise Partnership, Chamber of Commerce, and networks from the automotive, engineering and process industries, EngageNE’s network has grown to 250 members since its inception in 2016.

Trevor said, “The collaboration between EngageNE and People Power – the North East’s leading event for business leaders – was an ideal opportunity to promote the Engage for Success message to more employers in our region. It was really great to hear Nita and David speak as passionately as ever on behalf of Engage for Success about why engagement is so important, particularly in the current climate.”

In 2021, EngageNE plans to participate in an even bigger, globally available People Power event planned for June, keeping a spotlight on employee engagement and continuing to share the Engage for Success message far and wide.
