Maximising Engagement using Hybrid Working

16 February 2022 |5:00 pm - 6:30 pm GMT

Free

Engage4Success  and the Association of British Psychologists (ABP) have collaborated in promoting highly successful events for several years. Not wishing to be defeated by the pandemic, this was conducted over Zoom last February.  ABP and E4S are pleased to be able to collaborate once again.

The consequences of the current pandemic presents challenges for us all but when these present multiple issues of control and engagement, it can be disproportionately difficult to maintain an adequate level of focus and motivation.  Although an important component, broader issues than remote working need to be addressed.  A recent FT article highlighted a case study involving a small retail business which depended on specialist technical support: no longer able to afford this directly, alternative solutions had to be found for engaging in different ways, adapting themselves to tasks which fall well outside their stated competences.  In much the same way, employees are having to experiment with different hybrid scenarios from leadership and collaboration with colleagues to effective allocation of tasks and ergonomics, along with making decisions about whether and for how frequently they need to return to the office.  Maintaining trust, motivation and good communication are a key elements of this: this session will explore how these elements can be maximised and lay the groundwork for engaging in clear positive thinking.

Authentic leadership is critical to supporting teams and a creating positive mindset, taking a strategic overview and challenging short cuts in thinking.

Of particular interest will be the opportunity to hear how business psychology and employee engagement can come together to deliver a positive solution to seemingly intractable problems, especially in remote working.

The event will involve thought-provoking inputs from our speakers and opportunities to share experiences and ideas with other participants.

Dan Hill, PhD is based in Minneapolis / St. Paul.  Dan is the president of Sensory Logic, Inc., which has done market research on capturing and quantifying emotions work with 50%+ of the world’s top 100 B2C companies.  Dan pioneered the use of facial coding in business in 1998 as a certified practitioner of the Facial Action Coding System. He is the recipient of 7 U.S. patents related to the analysis of facial coding data.

Dan has recently published a book on Employee Engagement – “An alternative Guide to Office Lingo”.   Despite the light-hearted title, the book addresses serious issues around engagement, leadership and communication – a fitting contribution to this discussion.

Tess Shannon, Colleague Engagement and Experience Manager, The Co-op

Tess Shannon is based in Manchester and leads the colleague engagement and experience insight programme across Co-op’s varied businesses including food stores, funeral homes, legal services and insurance. Tess has worked for and helped to develop the E4S movement.

Tess will discuss how a colleague-led approach to informing the development of hybrid working practices has worked, and how colleague sentiment and needs have evolved through the pandemic.

This will be a lively and participative event, highly informative, with much to take away and apply.
