This case study details the way a local authority took an employee engagement approach to its spending review. ‘The Lancashire Way’ incorporates six discrete elements: educating and convincing management; self-realisation through management style questionnaires and peer reviews; simple values/behavioural sets; extensive recognition processes; improved communication channels; and continuous improvement. The approach the council took was very much ‘top down’ and began with educating and convincing the top 500 managers in the organisation.
